| General description【一般描述】 | Open Reading Frame 0 (ORF0) is a primate-specific open reading frame in LINE-1 retrotransposons. Over 3,000 potential ORF0 loci are reported to be present in human and chimpanzee genomes. ORF0 is a predominantly nuclear protein that enhances LINE-1 mobility and contributes to retrotransposon-mediated diversity. It is a highly positively charged protein that may act by binding to nucleic acids. It displays two splice donor (SD) sites at nucleotides 106 and 191 (amino acids 35 and 64) that can act in concert with splice acceptors (SAs) in downstream genomic sequences to generate fusion proteins. ORF0 transcripts are reported to exist in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSc) derived from primates. (Ref.: Denli, AM et al (2015). Cell 163(3): 583 593). |
