ZFYVE27 may be associated with the neuronal intracellular trafficking in the corticospinal tract, which is consistent with the pathology of HSP.
ZFYVE27 (Protrudin) is a transmembrane protein with Rab11-binding domain and a lipid-binding FYVE domain. Protrudin regulates the morphology of endoplasmic reticulum and its function. It is mediates neurite extension by modulation of directional membrane trafficking in the neurons. The gene encoding this protein has been observed to be frequently mutated in hereditary spastic paraplegia.
